Convert your Powerboat Instructor Certificate to become a PWC Instructor with this 1-day course
If you already have an RYA Powerboat Instructor Certificate and would like to become a PWC instructor, this course is for you! With this one-day course, you can develop your teaching skills and learn the techniques and syllabus to allow you to instruct the RYA PWC Proficiency Course.
This course will allow you to transfer your teaching skills from your Powerboat Instructor certification and learn how to apply them to the PWC Proficiency Course. If you would like to become a PWC instructor but are without a Powerboat Instructor certification, please consider our three-day instructor course instead.
Do I need previous experience?
Yes. This course is designed for students who have successfully completed the RYA Powerboat Instructor Course. Students must also have a minimum of 2 years’ experience of driving personal watercraft, a valid and in-date First Aid certificate, a VHF Radio qualification, and must be a minimum of 16 years old to complete the course.
Students must also hold the RYA PWC Proficiency Course certificate prior to embarking on this course. The RYA PWC Instructor Conversion Course is a revised version of the PWC Proficiency Course adapted for teaching, so knowledge of this syllabus is vital.
The RYA PWC Instructor Conversion Course is a one-day training opportunity where you will develop your existing teaching skills to safety lead riders through the PWC Proficiency Course. The RYA PWC Instructor Conversion Course is a revised version of the PWC Proficiency Course adapted for teaching. The course content revises the teaching techniques you learned during your Powerboat Instructor training, focusing on demonstrating how to instruct and debrief students, with an emphasis on safety and handling.
The RYA PWC Instructor Conversion Course syllabus provides a comprehensive knowledge of teaching jetski handling and safety, and includes:
- Practical teaching skills
- Classroom teaching skills
- Debriefing
- Launching and recovery
- Essential safety information
- Riding and handling at low speed
- Riding and handling at high speed
- General manoeuvres

Course Costs
The RYA PWC Instructor Conversion Course cost is £289 per person. This course will be taught in a group, with a maximum group size of 6 students on 3 jetskis. For the duration of the course, you will have the opportunity to work on a 1-2-1 basis with an instructor both on the water and in the classroom to consolidate your teaching skills.
